The NFU has withdrawn its representative from Dairy UK, claiming the body no longer supports dairy farmers following its decision to dump independent chairman David Curry.

A row erupted this week after Dairy UK prevented Curry, an MP, from standing for re-election, instead appointing Dairy Crest chief executive Mark Allen.

The NFU said the chairman could no longer be regarded as independent. The union’s president Peter Kendall insisted NFU dairy board chairman Gwyn Jones resign his position from the Dairy UK board.
