Sir; Several of your correspondents have, during recent weeks, commented upon the storm clouds gathering over MAFF. Leaving aside the political utterings which have tarred the dialogue surrounding the FMD outbreak, there is no doubt that the way the ministry has responded to the issue is open to question. Indeed, long before FMD there were question marks over MAFF. Many believe it should be broken up and the best bits re-attached to other ministries. Trouble is, who would speak for our important agri-community in Brussels if this happened? Another sad consequence would be the undoubted departure of Nick Brown. Pity that. For, despite everything, he isn't a bad minister. K Johnston Cheltenham {{LETTERS }}
