Delegates reserved a warm round of applause for retiring FWD director general Alan Toft as he bid an emotional farewell at this week’s conference.
Toft, who joined the Federation in 1989, was praised for his tireless work in pushing the cause of wholesalers nationwide as FWD chairman Rodney Hunt presented him with an ornate timepiece and barometer. Hunt said: “All of us fully appreciate Alan’s efforts and there is no doubt that he put the FWD on the map. He has achieved huge awareness of the Federation’s work and built relationships with government.”
One of Toft’s key contributions during his time at the FWD was to create Pro Wholesaler magazine, which is now a sister title to The Grocer within the William Reed stable.
