Belgian grocery retailer the Delhaize Group has announced is has reached an agreement to acquire 43-store Belgian supermarket chain Cash Fresh.

The retailer also announced that for the full year of 2004 its organic sales had seen growth of 2.8%, up from 2.4% the previous year due to good sales at its Food Lion and Kash n’ Karry stores.

Total sales for the company decreased by 4.5% to E18bn due to the weakening of the US dollar.

“Delhaize Group realized an excellent performance in 2004,” said Pierre-Olivier Beckers, president and chief executive officer. “We further reinforced our positions through store remodelling, store openings and targeted fill in acquisitions.”
