A massive survey to discover the delivery needs of all news retailers is due to get underway in July. The exercise, expected to last at least six months, will be conducted by wholesalers to establish the times at which retailers need their news supplies. Once these have been agreed, wholesalers will meet newspaper publishers to look at how they can revise delivery times. It is believed the exercise will take over a year to complete. At the same time a national distribution monitor will be put into place to log delivery times. It is hoped this will solve the problem of late deliveries which currently account for 50% of all ISSA complaints. The survey and timing were agreed at an all industry Focus on Distribution Initiatives workshop.
