Oddbins is expanding its direct delivery service in a deal with Amtrak Express Parcels worth around £700,000.

Amtrak is offering the off-licence chain the use of its express delivery, fragile goods handling service and additional call centre staff to take orders by internet or telephone at peak times.

Oddbins hopes the two-year rolling contract will help it cope with growing demand in the gift market.

Oddbins revamped its Oddbins Direct website in March. The company's customer service and direct sales manager, Neil Bench, said the site, launched in 2000, received 50,000 orders annually and grew 20% in the last full year.
