Champagne corks popped this week as The Grocer's cricketing squad finally triumphed over perennial rivals Food From Britain.
Over the years FFB's winning ways have been founded on a creative selection policy which has included relatives and "a bloke who popped into the office once". This year our skipper and online editor Chris Fletcher cast his net across the Wm Reed empire to boost his squad to secure victory and continued employment.
Put in to bat by the opposition, The Grocer team who had decided not to practise in case they peaked too early stuttered to 145 in their 25 overs. In reply, FFB got off to a flyer, but the wickets began to tumble and they were polished off by senior reporter Anne Bruce bowling in high heels for victory by 15 runs. FFB's director of business Charlotte Lawson handed over the trophy.
