Islay, Scotland's famous whisky island, may be facing a dilemma with the unexpected discovery of a twin island in Peru.
The Peruvian Islay, which is now believed to have once been joined to the Scottish Islay island before it moved away 450 million years ago, may also be entitled to the same Islay nomenclature, Distilled in Islay, for its rum and grape brandy Pisco. This could potentially be the cause of a headache for the Scotch Whisky Association.
Islay's local councillor Robin Currie says:"We may well export some Peruvian brandy just to see the SWA's reaction. "
