Drummond, who will take up his new role in October, has worked in the independent food industry for 35 years and was most recently retail marketing manager for the Scottish Midland Co-operative Society.
He has also worked as associate trading director for Morning Noon & Night, trading and marketing director for Alldays Stores and marketing director for Watson & Philip Retail Services.
Drummond replaces Scott Landsburgh who in May announced he would be quitting the CEO post after five years. He leaves on September 23 to pursue other business interests.
Landsburgh was heavily involved in the consultation process for the new Licensing (Scotland) Bill.
The SGF said: “John is very well known throughout the Scottish food industry and the national executive is confident he will drive the SGF forward.”
