Bosses at East Malling Research have said that the organisation faces a shortage of funding. The warning was sounded as EMR reported a surplus of £94,000 on a turnover of £6m for its first full year of operating since it was separated from Horticulture Research International in 2004.
Colin Gutteridge, chief executive, said: “The biggest issue that we face is the lack of opportunities for new research funding. We are putting huge emphasis on finding new sources of funding, and are waiting to see what impact the current reorganisation of scientific work at Defra will have on competitive research funding.”
