Many supermarkets have been increasing their orders of eggs as customers reverted to egg meals because of the meat shortage, according to the NFU. Sales were reported buoyant, particularly of smaller sizes, with eggs in short supply in many parts of the country, and prices rising. Continental eggs were quickly absorbed. Very few eggs were avilable at producer to producer level and a keen eye was being kept on quality.
