More domestic eggs will be available this year. The UK industry is seeing an unexpected rise in chick placings. The forecast by the National Egg Marketing Association is of total placings for 2000 of 31.5 million, a rise of 3.8% on 1999. From January to March this year, the number of first year layers is likely to rise from 29 to 30 million birds.
