Forty five per cent of employees in the retail sector feel the training they receive from their employer is inadequate, according to GfK's Fairness Index survey.

More than one third feel bosses do no care about the work/life balance of staff and are uninterested in employees who have problems at work. Some 35% do not feel harassment is properly dealt with, while 30% think bosses fail to provide adequate health and safety conditions.

"We see a clear link between responsible business behaviour and profitability. It is time the retail trade woke up to this," said Leo Martin, founding director of GoodCorporation, which sponsored the survey.
