Fuel giant Exxon Mobil Corporation is to trial its international On the Run convenience format at four sites in the south of England.

Four former Esso sites are being demolished to make way for the new look forecourts, which will open later this year.

The retail-led international format is licensed, with fresh hot and cold food, a café and a deli.

The trial sites, due to open from mid-October, are in Bicester, Swindon, Banbury and at the Robin Hood roundabout, south-west London. An Esso spokeswoman said there were now 800 On the Run sites in the world, but the format was “just on trial in the UK at the moment”.

However, further planning applications for conversions of Esso and Mobil petrol stations are in the pipeline, she added.

On the Run was developed as a global brand by the new Exxon Mobil Corporation following the merger of Mobil and Esso in late 1999.

Its slogan is ‘Fast, Fresh and Friendly’.
