Sir; Members of our Midland based food marketing group, Heart of England fine foods, reaped substantial rewards from the Food and Drink Expo held at the NEC last week, in the form of thousands of pounds worth of potential new business. Our group, with backing from Advantage West Midlands and Defra, took along 23 food and drink producers, exhibiting everything from speciality confectionery to health food products such as wheat grass juice. They also launched over 20 new products to the market, and ran a non-stop cookery theatre demonstrating hundreds of different recipe ideas. Our members represented the largest regional food group in the prestigious Food from Britain pavilion, showcasing over 400 product lines that are grown, produced or made in the Midlands. It was a great show to do business at, with many of our members clinching significant orders on the spot, and since the show, HEFF exhibitors have enjoyed a busy week sending out samples to potential purchasers. Producers reported making excellent new contacts in both the retail and catering sectors and found the show useful to meet up to discuss new product lines with existing customers. It was also a great barometer for new and older businesses alike to measure their competitiveness and product portfolio against competing companies from around the country.
