FamilyMart, the Japanese convenience store operator, plans to expand its overseas presence by 6,800 additional outlets to a total of 11,770 stores before the end of 2008.

The company hopes to double the number of stores it has in South Korea to give a total of 5,400, and it wants to triple the amount of stores in Thailand, to amount to 1,600.

It also wishes to add more stores in the USA and China, where it hopes to set up 2,000 stores across major cities.
