Food analysts have introduced a next-day pesticide residue testing service for fresh produce.
Central Science Laboratory (CSL) in York is offering a choice of seven tests that will screen for 90% of pesticides found in fresh produce.
Steve Brewer of CSL claimed the next-day service compared extremely favourably with other testing services, which typically take around five days.
“The pressure on fresh produce handlers can be immense as the food chain becomes increasingly strict regarding acceptable levels of pesticide residues, while produce is now coming from a wider range of sources than ever before.
“Time is of the essence in obtaining pesticide residue results, and is particularly critical when a rapid response is needed in the wake of a pesticide product recall.”
Companies book testing on-line and must ensure their samples reach CSL by 11am to guarantee a result by 5pm the following working day.
