The Food and Drink Federation has launched a new voice for vegetarian food and drink manufacturers.

The FDF Vegetarian (Meat-Free) Group, will kick off as of November 20 with a number of key vegetarian and meat-free food producers to form an alliance of interests within the industry.

FDF director general Sylvia Jay said: “The group reflects the growing demand for even more choice in the food we eat.

“It will provide manufacturers with an essential forum and a strong voice in a sector which plays an increasingly important part of their business.”

According to the latest reports the vegetarian and meat-free category is worth more than £540m in the UK and is growing on average by over 15% a year.
