E-commerce consultancy E-Insight predicts online grocery sales reached £10m in the six weeks prior to Christmas but it believes lack of scale, heavy marketing costs, online discounting and inefficient fulfilment of customer orders could result in losses of £5m. Mystery shopper surveys conducted by E-Insight found 65% of internet orders failed to be fulfilled as promised (fresh produce performed slightly better).
