UK exporters have been warned to prepare for a new export regime in America.
Food From Britain US office president Steve Dawson said exporters to the United States will face additional red tape from December 12.

New rules under the US Public Health Security and Bioterrorism Preparedness and Response Act require all food facilities to register their details on a Food and Drink Administration website. Details of all shipments will have to be logged in advance.

Dawson said exporters would need to build in an extra week or two into the supply chain in case there were requests for extra information at an American port.

He said: "If you export perishables like cheese, this could be a big problem, and a number of major cheese exporters are very unhappy."
