Fiji Water has revealed plans to significantly reduce its carbon output.

It aims to reduce carbon emissions by 25% by 2010 and cut packaging by 20% over the next three years, and has invested in renewable sources such as wind to power its bottling facility.

It said it was working with working with Conservation International to cut carbon output through renewable energy projects in a bid to address criticism about the distance the product has to travel.

The water comes from an underground source in the Fijian Islands and is then shipped to the UK. It contributed to more than 15% of Fiji's exports in 2006.
