The Scottish fishing industry has won a crucial victory this week after the European ombudsman asked the EC to correct an administrative error over fishing quotas in the west of Scotland.

The EC had confused quota data, leading to a reduction in the number of fishing days allocated to certain groups of vessels in Scottish waters.

“The determination of our fishermen has proved it is still possible for a David to right the wrongs of a Goliath,” said Patrick Stewart of the Clyde Fishermen’s Association.
