Total aims to dramatically increase the number of Bonjour retail outlets on its forecourt sites by the end of 2003, taking the total to 50.
Bonjour project manager Iain Cracknell said a total of 10 Bonjour sites would be open by the end of this year, mainly in south east England. The roll-out would also focus on that region.
Cracknell said the stores were not intended to directly compete with c-store formats such as Tesco Express and Sainsbury's Local. "We would not be able to replicate the kind of offer Sainsbury's Local does. We're just introducing a destination for top-up shopping.
"But Bonjour sites are very different to our normal forecourt shops. They will have more of an emphasis on convenience and fresh food."
