The grocery industry raised £5,000 for charity at the 2008 Food Industry Sailing Challenge, which took place last week in Cowes on the Isle of Wight.
The event provides corporate teams from the food and grocery industry an opportunity for team-building and corporate entertainment. With racing taking place from the world famous Royal Yacht Squadron line, teams sailed on Sunfast 37 yachts under the watchful eyes of professional skippers.
Day one saw almost perfect sailing conditions. The crews fought it out on the water, before heading for the Royal Yacht Squadron lawn for a champagne reception and meal. Day two saw slightly less wind but the sun was still shining and entrants enjoyed three races before the prizegiving at Cowes.
The 2008 event was supported by The Grocer as media partner and saw entries from Gallaher, Arla Foods, Forza AW, Grampian Country Pork, Stonegate Farmers, Dairy Farmers of Britain, Brookstreet Des Roches LLP and Smith and Williamson.
The overall results were:
1st - Smith & Williamson
2nd - DFB
3rd - Arla Foods
4th - Stonegate Farmers
5th - Gallaher 2
6th - Gallaher 1
7th - Forza AW
8th - Grampian Country Pork
