Fine summer weather in Scotland has boosted food sales with tourists spending their money on supplies while on self-catering holidays in the country, according to the Scottish Retail Consortium.

Total food sales rose by 7.2% - up from 6.9% reported in June, with ice cream, beer and barbecue items among the best-sellers due to the warm and dry weather.

The boost in tourism also made for a successful month for convenience stores in rural areas, the SRC said.
