Foodland has struck a deal to buy Dairy Farm International's New Zealand supermarket chain Woolworths after almost 12 months of legal wrangling. Perth based Foodland already has a sizeable share in NZ grocery retail through its subsidiary Progressive Enterprises, and the Woolworths deal will give it a 40% share of the market. Under the NZ$690m (£230m) deal, Foodland picks up 85 supermarkets under the Woolworths, Big Fresh and Price Chopper banners, and 26 mini-marts. It has also purchased the rights to the trademarks for all these brands to use within the New Zealand market. {{NEWS }}
