Ahold has snapped up Belgian foodservice company Mea ­ De Wilde De Loore for an undisclosed sum. The acquisition is part of Ahold's efforts to build a massive presence in the fast growing foodservice market and comes hot on the heels of acquisitions of PYA/ Monarch and US Foodservice in the States. It represents Ahold's first foray into the Belgian foodservice market, which it estimates to be worth 4.5bn euros. Mea ­ De Wilde is the market leader, supplying fresh and frozen products to restaurant chains, contract caterers, nursing homes, and hospitals. {{NEWS }}
