The increasing importance of the foodservice market to wholesalers will be discussed by the Federation of Wholesale Distributors at the annual Catersummit. According to Alan Toft, director general of the FWD, catering accounts for 30% of wholesale trade and this is expected to rise as it has done in the US where foodservice accounts for 51%. "Foodservice is growing at the expense of the retail market. In foodservice about 80% of all catering requirements go through wholesalers while in retail many manufacturers distribute directly to retailers." The five biggest wholesalers to the catering market will be presenting at Catersummit  Blakemore Foodservice, Booker Cash & Carry, Brakes, Woodward Foodservice and 3663. "Catersummit will be a showcase for wholesaling as never before," added Toft. Catersummit 2002 is held on 7-8 October at Stratford-upon-Avon. {{NEWS }}
