RAS says no livestock means no show The Royal Agricultural Society of England has announced the cancellation of the Royal Show 2001 due to the foot and mouth crisis. Chief executive Mike Calvert said: "We have considered running the exhibition without livestock. "But felt this would be inappropriate as the Royal Show has farming at its core and remains first and foremost an agricultural business exhibition for the whole industry." However to help the industry look forward and plan for the future the Society will be holding an exhibition, AgriVision, on December 5 and 6, 2001, which will focus on the future of farming. As The Grocer went to press, plans were still being made for the Royal Highland Show to go ahead in June, but a board meeting is scheduled for Wednesday (April 9) when a decision on whether the show will take place will be made. {{NEWS }}
