FreshXpress, the c-store chain set to rise from the ashes of Kwik Save, will have only 24 stores.

Fifty-six Kwik Save shops were saved last week from closure in an £18m pre-pack administration deal backed by Irish entrepreneur Brendan Murtagh.

It had been thought that all would be re-branded as FreshXpress - but instead 32 are to be sold off to other retailers, including Tesco, Sainsbury's and The Co-op.

The other Kwik Save stores not taken on are being sold by KPMG. M&S and Poundland confirmed they were considering buying stores.
