Cocktail specialist Funkin is expanding into the off-trade with the launch of a 99p cocktail mixer.

The company was hoping to tap into the underdeveloped opportunity of cocktails at home and was going for the impulse market with the below-£1 price-point, said founder Alex Carlton.

"Cocktails in the on-trade have become more popular, home drinking is on the increase," said Carlton. "However cocktails at home can be time-consuming and mixing and blending are seen as difficult arts to master."

To plug the gap the company has launched a six-strong range of Funkin Cocktail Mixes, which can be added to a shot of spirit and some ice to create a high-quality cocktail in 10 seconds. The ambient range includes a Margarita, a Piña Colada and two Mojitos.

This month Hi Spirits also launched a range of cocktail mixers while Diageo and West Eleven Cocktails have recently launched ready mixed cocktails.
