The Federation of Wholesale Distributors has acted to end confusion over the abbreviation given to ready-to-drink alcohol products (RTDs) in the cash and carry sector.

The association’s plans to launch a blueprint advising independent retailers of must-stock brands have been hampered by disagreements between cash and carries and suppliers over what the sector should be called. Alan Toft, director general of the FWD, said the blueprint, which will complement existing planograms for beers, wines and spirits, would be branded as the ‘Alcoholic RTDs’ blueprint. He argued that independents understood the term RTD to mean a soft drink sold in a carton.
