The very first National Independents' Week is now less than three months away, but there's still plenty of time for independent retailers, wholesalers and suppliers to get involved in what looks set to be a fantastic seven days.
The celebration, organised by the FWD under the auspices of its My Shop Is Your Shop campaign, begins on 4 June. Details of planned activities for the week, an extension of the National Independents Day event that has run in previous years, will be unveiled in the coming days.
One element that will, as in the past, be present will be the Daily Mirror/Daily Record big brand money-off coupon promotion to kickstart the week.
"The decision by the FWD to extend the old one-day event to one week has galvanised us into producing a platform on which retailers, backed by wholesalers, will have bags of potential for engaging the local community to produce extra footfall," said Alan Toft, head of the FWD's PR Action Group.
"There is a highly unusual level of constructive camaraderie demonstrated on the PR Action Group - the members of whom mostly compete ferociously with each other. I am convinced they now share my belief that My Shop is Your Shop is fundamental to the future of the independent sector."
