Organic babyfood specialist Organix is removing all ingredients that contain gluten from its weaning products.
The move, which the manufacturer claims is a first for a UK producer, comes in the face of what Organix claims is confusing advice from NHS promotional services and the Department of Health.
The company says NHS guidelines state that wheat-based foods which contain gluten should be avoided up to the age of six months because of the risk of intolerance.
The DoH advises that non-wheat ingredients such as oats, barley and rye are suitable even though they also contain gluten.
Organix' revamped range contains 50 babyfood recipes.
