Farming groups have welcomed the new government's decision to implement a badger cull to control bovine TB.

Defra secretary Caroline Spelman and minister Jim Paice both confirmed in the past week that a targeted cull would take place, ending years of indecision.

The Royal Association of British Dairy Farmers said this was "a great relief to thousands of farmers" whose livelihoods had been affected and it hoped the government would take note of measures adopted by other countries to eradicate bovine TB.
