Golden kiwi, the smooth sweeter hybrid trialled in the UK last year, is set to reach 3.5 to four million trays for export this summer. Peter Luxton, md of Zespri International (Europe), the industry's marketing arm, is expecting more kiwifruit overall to come to the UK. Fruit will be shipped to the continent as well. Within three to five years Luxton estimates golden kiwi will account for 15% of the entire crop. It is also being planted under licence in France, Italy and California as part of a plan to market it year round. The fruit has a 12 week season and is due to begin arriving in mid June. {{FRESH PRODUCE }}
