JJ Food Service has invested £3m in 60 new trucks and won a contract with a local authority worth £2.5m a year.

The company, which won The Grocer Gold Wholesaler of the Year award this week, has chosen the Volvo vehicles because they have low emissions and can be maintained and repaired at JJ's headquarters in Enfield.

"Not only do they have the latest environmentally friendly features, but they are also very presentable when delivering outside our customers' businesses, where a quality image is important," said managing director Mustafa Kiamil.

He also announced the wholesaler was to supply Derbyshire County Council's 400 schools and social service sites from three of its depots, in Birmingham, Manchester and Doncaster.
