The Government has come under fire for vilifying food manufacturers but failing to address the exercise side of the obesity equation.

"We have been outlawed and ostracised by the Government," claimed Sugro UK MD Philip Jenkins at this week FWD conference.

"We are accused of deteriorating the health of the nation. We are enemy number one in the eyes of Government and the NHS. Why is it Government feels so compelled to murder a long-established, perfectly sensible industry that employs huge numbers of people?"

Jenkins questioned why Government had sold off school playing fields and only recently created free access to gyms.

He urged wholesalers to write to their MP in protest at Government restrictions of the public freedom of choice, which he described as "a fundamental right".
