Grocery price levels have flattened out following a sharp increase last month. Data from The Grocer Price Index shows prices have remained virtually unchanged, falling 0.1% since we last reviewed the index five weeks ago.

This followed a 0.75% jump between August and September, largely due to energy price rises and harvest fluctuations. The index has risen 2.7% in the past year.

Some analysts said seasonal effects and energy rises had tailed off and price rivalry loomed. Deutsche Bank said it was not expecting any particular prices rises beyond inflationary ones.
