The success of the Blueprint merchandising guide is being highlighted by the FWD with the introduction of two new annual awards which recognise the efforts of single store owners and multiple independents. Surgit Rai (far left), owner of Rai's Mini Market in Newcastle, Tyne & Wear, won Blueprint Retailer of the Year for independents. He used the Blueprint to increase the turnover of his £3,000 a week off licence section to £7,000. North-east based Mills Group claimed the Multiple Blueprint Retailer of the Year title. The award was collected by its sales and marketing director David Pickford (on the right of our picture), who said: "Since implementing the Blueprint strategy we have seen like-for-like growth in the sector of 19.4%."
