Food manufacturer Symington's has bought Hain Celestial's dry-mix business.

Hain, which makes couscous, sport nutrition products, snack pots and vegetarian meals, had sales of £2.5m last year and makes lines under the Granose, Realeat, Direct Foods and Amazing Grains brands.

Symington's was the subject of a £40m management buy-out in September, and produces soups, rice and noodles under the Ainsley Harriott, Crosse & Blackwell and Symington's brands.

"The acquisition will enable us to engage with customers in the vegetarian and health food sectors," said Symington's marketing director Henrik Pade.
