McNeil Consumer Nutritionals has teamed up with sugar specialist Tate & Lyle to bring a low calorie sweetener called Splenda to the UK. The newcomer is heat stable which means it can be used in cooking and baking. It is also suitable for diabetics. The 90g jars of granulated and 100 and 300-tablet dispensers, due out in September, will be backed by a six-figure marketing spend which will include TV advertising. Already a success in the US, where it accounts for a 20% share after 18 months in the market, Splenda has achieved double digit growth in both Australia and Canada. {{P&P }}
