Trade and industry secretary Patricia Hewitt this week announced a multi-million pound support package for rural post offices.
Up to £300m will be available to help rural offices from 2006 to 2008, as a continuation of the current £450m financial aid.
Hewitt said: “We are fully committed to ensuring that those living in rural communities have access to the services they need, including post office services.
“This money will also give the Post Office time to develop and test ways to meet the changing needs of its customers.”
