Fresh cut herb grower and importer R&G Stevens is spending the money to upgrade its operations, including an automated packing line. The move, completed in November, will substantially increase its current 10 million unit throughput, said the company.
The first stage, a temperature-controlled preparation line, was completed this week, and will be followed by increased chilled storage space, staff facilities and an office linked to an integrated computer network.
Partner Matthew Prestwich says the modernisation programme, begun this Summer, is in response to current customers’ needs, but there are no plans to increase production.
Stevens grows some 14 acres of English herbs in the summer, and imports out of season, providing over 26 types.
