Escalating rents combined with tough trading conditions are forcing many retailers to quit the high street, according to a report by Verdict Research. The report says businesses that enjoy high margins, such as mobile phone retailers, are taking high street space and that shoppers believe choice in the high street is limited. In January it found only 32% of consumers would use the high street rather than out-of-town and covered shopping centres or retail parks, compared to 46% in 2000. {{PROPERTY }}
