Meat packing company Hilton Food Group has reported a 29.7% drop in half-year pre-tax profit to £7.4m on sales up 10% at £3.59m.

Despite “exceptionally adverse” summer weather in the UK, which affected sales of barbeque products, turnover rose 6% and volume rose 10% in its Western Europe operations, the group said.

“With Hilton's strong cash flow and a proven track record of setting up new facilities for customers in new geographical locations, it is well placed to develop new business opportunities, as and when they arise,” added chairman Gordon Summerfield.
