A big majority of staff in convenience stores choose their place of work because of its location, according to the latest study from Harris International Marketing’s Convenience Tracking Programme. The study, which involves feedback from 3,700 shop staff at 1,600 stores, reveals that 72% work where they do because of its location, while 53% say flexible working hours and shift work are important and 43% nominate a “good working environment”.

When it comes to what they value in the job, 66% of c-store staff cite flexibility of opening hours and the same percentage say it is their relationships with colleagues. Forty seven percent say that support from their colleagues and from management was most important with the next most quoted reasons being security (40%), flexibility (37%), shift times (26%) and training (20%).
