Independent retailers are still facing problems with chip and PIN, despite the deadline passing this week for obligatory use of PINs.
A straw poll by The Grocer of its Top 50 found many had not yet installed chip and PIN. Some had found the cost prohibitive.
Although most independents said that the costs associated with chip and PIN would be worth it, some said that it had been an expensive process.
One retailer was aiming to have chip and PIN up and running by April, while a second was aiming for July.
