Collins was most recently trading director at Scotmid Co-operative Society and has more than 33 years experience in the industry, including at WH Smith, Bells Stores and Jacksons Stores.
"I have known Richard for a number of years and have been trying to secure his services for Haldanes since its inception," said Haldanes chairman Arthur Harris. "I am very pleased I have finally succeeded. I believe Richard's extensive experience and knowledge and his retail operational skills will be a benefit to the team already in place."
Collins will be responsible for trading and operational functions at Haldanes and will join the company on 1 August.
Despite closing one of its stores last week, Harris has said the company is negotiating to acquire more stores in Scotland and England.
