Cake manufacturer Inter Link Foods has reported a 17% rise in pre-tax profit to £2.66m for the six months to 30 October, from £2.28m the year before.

The company also reported a 33% rise in turnover for the period to £44.23m, with like-for-like turnover up 14%.

Inter Link has increased its debts over the last year, which it says is in connection to January 2004’s acquisition of Hoppers, which it says is proving to be a very successful purchase.

In his statement, the chairman said: “Our objective for the business continues to be that we will grow organically and as a result of selective acquisitions, both in the UK and Europe.”

Inter Link is one of the top three cake suppliers in the UK. It made 75m bakewell tarts last year, and it used 32m eggs overall, which is the weight of 220 London double-decker buses.
